Set up your chart of accounts

Pick a template for your country and business; every account points to its tax line. Then make it yours.

beginner · 4 min

  1. Open Chart of accounts and choose the workspace.
  2. Pick the country: IRS (United States) or Receita (Brazil). In Brazil, pick the tax regime first — MEI, Simples Nacional, Lucro Presumido or Lucro Real — because it changes what an expense does to your taxes.
  3. Choose the template closest to your business (contractor, services, retail, restaurant, rental, S corporation, family, personal…) and tap Use this template.

Every account shows its tax line — for example Schedule C · line 9 for fuel — and whether it is deductible, partly deductible or not. It is a suggestion to help classify; your accountant decides.

Make it yours

  • add, rename or archive accounts; change the tax line and the note;
  • create sub-accounts under a parent account;
  • rename a group;
  • download the chart as CSV, edit it in a spreadsheet (or send it to your accountant) and import it back — you see a preview before anything is saved;
  • already have a chart? Link it instead of starting over.
